  PERSONALITY   

Socially awkward and generally oblivious to subtext in conversation in real life, Eko much prefers to be cloistered in one of his hideouts, engaged deeply in his hobbies. Unwanted as a child, he tends to be wary, keep people at arm's length, forcing them to prove that they are actually interested in him. This is also for his own safety, as he is wanted by the authorities back in Solution 9. Once a person gets past that outer shell, though, they find Eko to be highly intelligent, curious, and a complete rebel when it comes to institutional wealth and political hierarchies.

history

Born in the Everkeep, Eko was result of a union between a famous Arcadion champion and a wealthy, renowned fashion designer. Naturally yearning for his parents' attention from a young age, he quickly learned and accepted that they were ultimately disinterested in him. As long as they could shove credits in his direction to keep him occupied, they cared little for what he did with himself.Drifting for a while, throwing away money at clubs, sex workers, designer drugs and other ways to relieve his boredom, it was by random chance he found himself in bed with a hacker. More fascinated with the glowing monitors than he was with getting laid, the fellow Alexandrian thankfully took it with good grace and began to teach him.He soon found that he had a brilliant aptitude for technology. Eko spent hundreds of thousands of his parents' credit on tech, rapidly absorbing any and all information he could put his hands on in coding, hacking and technomancy - even going so far as to augment his body with cybernetics. After a near-miss with the authorities for hacking into the code regulators used (he'd long ago removed his own) in order to shut them down, he developed the code name 5H4D3 - or Shade, for those who couldn't decipher the leetspeak.When the Everkeep and Heritage Found fused with the Source as a result of interdimensional fusion technology, Eko was horrified by the massacre that took place shortly thereafter. For that reason, and also to elude the authorities, he fled Tural. Taking his deck and his tomephone with him, he crossed the Salt and landed in Ul'dah, bewildered and intrigued by the new races and people he found there... though found it disappointingly backwards when it came to his particular brand of arcanima.With money to spare, Eko is able to wander as he pleases, blending in with the Viera of the Source. Every day brings a new horizon for him and, hopefully, a new and interesting adventure.

  APPEARANCE   Having spent most of his life hunched over a screen or his tomephone, Eko does not have much in the way of muscle mass. While taller than most of his kin, his build is lean and his posture is awful, often slumped against a wall or the back of his chair.His hair is naturally black, but he dyes highlights in bright orange. His eyes are white and if one were to look closely, or get a peek under his dark glasses, would find a faint luminescence to them. He is heavily tattooed and has a plethora of scars from being cybernetically modified, though most of them are slender and barely noticeable. The only ones that are overtly obvious are the two large, jagged scars between his shoulder blades.He has a bit of a paranoid demeanor - after all, they really are out to get him, this was a fact - and the way his ears are constantly twitching and turning about to listen in on conversations around him is telling. Rarely keeping eye contact with anyone, his pale gaze flicks about, looking for any sign of danger - and should he find any cause to bolt, his would-be captors will find that he's fast, abnormally so - to the point of being able to teleport short distances.
